Summary

ChemCon The Americas 2023 took place in San Francisco, USA from 13 – 17 March 2023. More than 180 experts from 23 countries representing over 110 companies, authorities and associations attended the conference and contributed to an inspiring exchange of experiences and discussions about regulatory affairs around the globe.

The week had an excellent start with a workshop focussing on the global supply chain through the regulatory lens (EU’s Sustainable product initiative, including a digital product passport and global Nanomaterials and RoHS regulations), followed by in-depth seminars on “California and other State perspectives on chemical control legislation” and “Regulatory requirements and developments in Latin America and GHS in The Americas”.

During the rest of the week, a great variety of aspects of international chemical control legislation around the globe was discussed during the conference sessions. Hands on topics related to the US TSCA implementation, chemicals management in Canada, European regulatory strategy and implementation as well as Asian updates were of high relevance to the audience. As always, practical advice and lessons learned by industry were well received, since they show how to act within the legal frameworks set.

Many countries from The Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific were spotlighted in detail. Furthermore, there was a focus on topics like PFAS, GHS, global notification, data generation and data sharing and Safe and Sustainable by Design. Also risk management approaches and experiences were shared. The post-conference seminar on the final day focused on the supply chain communication and product stewardship strategies. Industry experts provided hands-on business experiences and lessons learned to consider for implementation and organisation of global regulatory challenges in the value chain. Among others, global hazard communication, digitalization of compliance communication, product risk assessment and liability were discussed. Furthermore, the global code of practice and product stewardship program in the Fragrance Industry was presented and what you need to do to be prepared for EU’S Corporate Sustainability Reporting.
